A new studio, and Artweeks
Some of my piccies on display at the new studio.
Hello, dear reader! Some exciting news for me. Earlier in the year, my Beloved saw an advert for a studio space in a local sculpture studio. I contacted the studio and decided to join them. Situated in a peaceful location in the Oxfordshire countryside, the studio offers a space (ok, it’s a small space, I’ll admit) in a thriving, friendly and vibrant studio with other artists and makers. I haven’t been using it for very long yet, but already I’m feeling the benefit of getting out of the house on my painting days and spending some focussed time with like-minded artists. It’s also quite convenient not having to pack all my painting gear away at the end of a session - I haven’t been told off for making a mess even once (yet).
It would be a stretch to say that being in the presence of other artists has instantly improved my painting. What it has done, is changed the way I see myself and my art practice. I know I have a good way to go on my art journey, but I feel like I’m starting to take myself more seriously. We recently had an open studio in connection with the Oxfordshire Artweeks programme (link opens in new tab) and I was honoured to be able to display a few of my paintings for the viewing pleasure of the Great British Public. I sold a couple of paintings and some cards, but much more importantly, I received some lovely feedback from people who came to see what was going on at the studio. I’m already looking forward to the next exhibition.
